The 1970s fashion began with maintenance of the miniskirts; bell-bottoms look from the late 1960s and finally became one of the most iconic decades for fashion ever. Generally the most famous outline of the mid and late 1970s for both genders was that of tight on top and loose on bottom. The 1970s also saw the birth of the indifferent, anti-conformist approach to fashion, which consisted of sweaters, t-shirts, jeans, and sneakers.

The 40s were the era of feminine glamour in fashion. Women used to use long elegant dresses and hats of every shape and size. All that things were fashionable. The most popular colors were the dark traditional ones.
The 50s were the shirtwaist era, when the rock and roll causes a change in the fashion. This era was represented perfectly at Grease movie, when you can see the different fashions between the social groups. The women used crinolines and shirtwaists. Men used jackets and blue jeans, with grease in their hair. And women used the hair over the shoulders.
The 60s were the time of a revolution. The hippie clothes, psychedelic ones, and marvelous elements were fashionable. The hippies used a natural or cultural style, love-ins, flowers, and free-flowing hairstyles.
The 70s era involves different styles of fashion. By one side the hippies continued such at as 60s. And by other side, the disco fever and platforms got to occupy an important place in the fashion. The flared line of bellbottoms was common. Platform shoes experienced it’s most playful and colorful look, and Afro s hairstyle was fashionable.
The 80s and 90s don’t have a representative trend. The old fashion, combined with the costumes of others cultures, make the fashion that we use now. The use of hippie or grunge clothes is common in some places, or Japanese influenced ones too. The hair with different colors, platforms, metallic color clothes, and colorful makeup are fashionable now.
Men’s fashion in the 1970s ranged from especially shiny and modern to downright uncomfortable. Men’s clothing in the seventies was relaxed fitting and comfortable. Soft fabrics were everywhere and, while they clothes were still tight compared to today; they weren’t skin tight like the sixties. Active wear was a popular choice for men and boys alike. Matching sweatpants and sweatshirts flew off the shelves for the entire decade.
Teenage boys wore lots and lots of denim. Denim jackets were complimented by matching denim jeans. Also corduroy pants were a hot item. Athletic shoes were becoming a fashion symbol, climaxing with the popularity of Nike Air Jordan shoes in the late 70s.
